The Mayflower Primary School

Disabled Access

                                                                     Disabled Access

The school has physical access to all but one of the main entrances and there are disabled toilet facilities available and accessible. One of the main entrances has 3 steps down and up to reach the hall level.  However this has been overcome through level access from the main office.

The interior of the building is not fully accessible due to 4 steps between the entrance corridor and the hall and a further 2 steps from the hall level to the year 1, 2 and 3 classrooms.  However, this has been overcome through the provision of a hardwearing and portable wooden ramp.  There is also level access from the exterior of the building at other entrance points.

Although the year 4, 5 and 6 classrooms are on the first and second floors of the building, they are fully accessible for disabled persons / pupils via a lift, located in our main reception. Pupils are always accompanied by an adult if requiring the lift access.

Where necessary, adaptations are made to ensure full access.  There is full access to all parts of the physical environment for pupils.  Adaptations can be made to timings, playtimes, lunchtimes, school trips, after-school clubs etc. to meet the needs of children with specific needs.
