Attendance

Important information for parents and carers

As a parent or carer you are legally responsible for ensuring that your child receives an appropriate full-time education.

Children with poor attendance make slower progress at school than their peers. They are more likely to fall behind with their work and this applies throughout their school careers.

Term-time holidays

Parents should not take their children on holiday during term-time. Only in the most exceptional of circumstances will term-time holiday absences be authorised. Unauthorised absences will be brought to the attention of the Attendance Compliance Team and may lead to the imposition of a Penalty Notice. There is no legal right to do so (pupil Registration Regulations 2006). If the absence is not authorised and the holiday is taken, the case will be referred to the Attendance Compliance Team who may issue a Penalty Notice for £120 (or £60 if paid within 28 days) to each of the parents for each child taken out of school.

If you consider that exceptional circumstances apply, please call at the school office for a term time absence form.

If your child is unwell

If your child is unable to attend school because of illness, please telephone the school office by 9.20am. The school number is 01255 502444. Alternatively, you can report an absence via our school website.

If your child has suffered from sickness or diarrhoea, please allow 48 hours from the last event before sending your child back to school.

Authorised absences are mornings or afternoons away from school for a good reason like illness (although you may be asked to provide medical evidence for your child before this can be authorised), medical or dental appointments which unavoidably fall in school time, emergencies, for a religious observance by the religious body to which the pupil’s parents/carers belong or other unavoidable cause.

Lateness

If your child arrives late for school (after 8.50am) you should accompany him/her to the school office where we will complete the Late Book.

The office staff will supply you with any further information you may need on attendance.
