Great Fire of London model houses
We have been very busy designing and making model houses based on the great fire of London. We had great fun making the houses. Have a look below to see our finished work.
Great Fire of London DT day
2KL had a fantastic day on Thursday making their own model of a house from the Great Fire of London! We carefully designed our houses thinking about what resources we would need to make them with and what they would look like. We then used our design to make our own model. The children took great care over their models and put in lots of effort to make them look great. We then went outside and lined our houses up to see what it might have looked like down Pudding Lane. We spoke about how close the houses were and why the fire spread so quickly. Thank you to everyone that brought in cereal boxes for us to use!
Happy Easter from 2JS
In Science we have been learning about materials and their suitability for different uses. We tested balls to see which material is the best to make a bouncy ball. We bounced 4 different balls and measured how high they bounced.
We've done it again! Well done 2JS for winning the attendance trophy for last week with 100% attendance.
Times Table Rockstar Battle
Year 2 have been competing in a battle on Time Tables Rockstars. It was an extremely close battle but Class 2JS won. Well done to all of the children who joined in during the battle. Below is a photo of the top scorers from each class. Look out for another battle soon!
Times Table Rockstar
Each child has been given their Times Table Rockstar login details this week. Please help your children to login and design their own avatar. This exciting new website that we have bought into will support children with their times tables, helping them to recall them quicker.
World Book Day!
Thank you for all the effort that went into making the children's costumes for World Book Day, they all looked great! We have had a brilliant day themed around the book 'The Day The Crayons Quit'. We collected information about our favourite colours and made the data into a graph, we learnt how to say some colours in French, we created a picture based on the picture that was made in the books and lots more!
World Book Day 2019
We have had a fantastic day celebrating World Book Day. Everyone dressed up as a book character and we had lots of fun doing activities linked to reading.
Well done 2JS for winning the attendance trophy this week.
2KL had lots of fun with this science experiment! An arctic explorer had a hole is his tent and we needed to think about the properties and suitability of certain materials to predict which one would be the best. We tested the materials and recorded our results, we wrote about how we carried out the experiment and then we wrote a conclusion to sum up what we had found.
Well done Class 2JS for receiving the attendance trophy this week.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Today 2KL had a great first day back after Christmas! We made snowflake biscuits and decorated them, then we made hot chocolate and drunk it while watching Frozen Planet. We are now very excited about our topic this half term!
This half term our new topic is 'Ice'.
The children have got lots to look forward to this half term. We will be learning about the equator and exploring the Arctic in geography. We will be learning about cold colours in art and using them to make cold pictures. In science we will be learning about materials and conducting some icy experiments. In English we will be writing our own icy story based on the story 'The Snow Queen'.
This year, homework will be given out on a Thursday.
Don't forget to read at least 5 times a week to be in with a chance of winning the Reading Challenge. It is really important for your children to read as any times as possible in order to secure the learning they do at school, aid their comprehension and confidence when reading.
If you are in 2KL, you will also be entered into Mrs Smith's Reading Raffle each time you read!
This year we have started a new spelling scheme. We have sent home the spellings we will be learning during Spring term. Please practise these at home with your child, we will be looking at the spelling patterns and rules in class every Friday.
Our PE days are:
Indoor - Monday
Outdoor - Wednesday
Please ensure your child has the correct indoor and outdoor kit, earrings are removed and hair is tied back for these days.
