Online Creative Writing Course with Children's Author James Campbell

After the extremely enjoyable visit from children's author, James Campbell, last week, he has sent our school details of a weekly online creative writing course that he delivers to children out of school hours. There is a cost for this - but it is provided free to families with children in receipt of Free School Meals.

Here is more information direct from James:

"For Children who really like writing. Taught by children's author - James Campbell

Do you have a child who wants to be a writer? Do they have notebooks stuffed with stories and ideas? Or are they showing a talent that needs nurturing?

James Campbell wrote The Funny Life of Pets; The Funny Life of Teachers; and The Funny Life of Sharks. He has been travelling around schools for 26 years, inspiring children to be more creative and get writing.

James has been running weekly online Zoom classes since April 2020 with huge success.

A lot of what James teaches is based on his latest book Write Your Own Funny Stories which was published by Bloomsbury in February 2021.

Classes have a maximum of 15 children and take the form of a combination of taught exercises, brainstorming around ideas, imagination, planning and actual writing. They are a safe place to share and celebrate your child's writing. We also have special guests in the form of other writers and illustrators.

We ask parents to commit to a term of classes which consists of 13 lessons. There are no classes in school holidays. The cost works out at just £6.50 each but they are FREE if you are in receipt of free school meals. These workshops are suitable for children aged 7-11.

He also runs one for teenagers.

James has NSPCC training in child protection and a full DBS.

“I’m so impressed with James’ sessions. Funny. Engaging. Friendly. Informal. Thoughtful. His approach really encourages creativity and imagination with a big dose of humour. My son always looks forward to his time with James.” Becky.

The current classes are:
Mondays @ 1.30pm (homeschool)
Mondays @ 4.30pm
Tuesdays @ 7.00pm
Wednesdays @ 7.00pm (teenagers)

All classes apart from Tuesdays are taught by James but occasionally if he is ill or travelling other writers deputise for him. Tuesday night classes are taught by Ebone Mouton who James trained to deliver the classes in his model. James appears in this class about 50% of the time depending on schedules."
