On Thursday 8th January 2026, The Mayflower entered two teams into the Tendring District inclusive new age kurling event at Alton Park Junior School (Clacton). Mr Whittingham and Mr Keeys (our two resident sports coaches) each took charge of a team - being slightly more competative than children. Mr Whittingham’s team narrowly missed out on advancing their initial group - while Mr Keeys’ team won all their group games, losing the final by the smallest of margins (one stone).

We really enjoyed the opportunity to take part in a different event, and have subsequently purchased our own kurling set to expand the range of opportunities that we offer all of our pupils. Mr Keey’s team are ‘super excited’ to be representing Harwich at county finals, which will be taking place in Basildon on 11th February.
