EYFS
In the Reception Classes, we learn by playing and exploring, being active, and through creative and critical thinking which takes place both indoors and outside.
Our carefully planned curriculum ensures all of the areas in the classrooms help towards your child’s development; this includes areas for writing, maths, phonics (learning to read), creative activities, reading, role play, music and an area to use the computer.
Outdoor learning is an important part of the early years as it contributes positively to children’s wellbeing, health and development. Children have access to our large outdoor space and attached woodland area in all weathers, which allows them to observe seasonal changes, develop scientific skills and knowledge, as well as enabling children to engage in physical play to improve their coordination, control, manipulation and movement.

Children in EYFS follow Development Matters and work towards achieving their Early Learning Goals. Your child will be learning skills, acquiring new knowledge and demonstrating their understanding through 7 areas of learning and development.
Communication and Language Development
Children are given opportunities to experience a rich language environment, to develop their confidence and skills in expressing themselves. They speak and listen in a range of situations.
Physical Development
Children are provided with opportunities to be active and interactive, to develop their coordination, control and movement. Children begin to understand the importance of physical activity and to make healthy food choices.
Personal, Social and Emotional Development
Children develop a positive sense of self, forming positive relationships with others, develop social skills and learn how to manage their feelings. They understand appropriate behaviour in groups and have confidence in their own abilities.
Literacy Development
Children begin to link sounds and letters and begin to read and write. Children are given access to a range of reading materials (books, poems and other reading materials) to ignite their interests.
Mathematics
Involves providing children with opportunities to develop ad strengthen their skills in counting, understanding and using numbers. They calculate simple addition and subtraction problems and describe shapes, space and measure.
Understanding the World
Involves guiding children to make sense of their physical world and their community through opportunities to explore, observe and find out about people, places, technology and the environment.
Expressive Arts and Design
Children explore and play with a wide range of media and materials, as well as providing opportunities and encouragement for sharing their thoughts, ideas and feelings. They experience art, music, dance, movement and role play.
