Yesterday 2KL let their butterflies out of the net on the field. We have loved watching the caterpillars turn to butterflies and learning about their life cycle!
This week in English we are learning about instructions. We followed a set of instructions to learn how to make a cardboard bee. 2KL were very pleased with how they looked when they had finished following the instructions!
The new Mayor of Harwich came to visit Key Stage 1. He talked to use about the special clothes he has to wear and all of the duties he carries out. We learnt about the history of the kitchel and even got to eat one!
Year 2 had a brilliant time at the park! Here are some photos of us having fun.
For the past two weeks, 2KL have been on a top secret mission (complete with secret agent badges!!) to prove they are the best Year 2 class in Harwich!! They really have tried their very best in all of their special quizzes they had to do. They are very excited that they all passed their secret mission and have a certificate for their efforts. Well done 2KL!!
Times Table Rockstars
Last week Year 2 completed a Battle of the Bands on Times Table Rockstars. Well done 2KL for winning the battle! Also a big well done to the children with the highest scores for their class. Keep it up!
We have been busy growing sunflowers in year 2. We have been watching them closely and observing how they change and grow.
Congratulations to the 4 finalists of the Spelling Bee! They are:
Imogen Higgs 2JS
Noah Mant 2KL
Florence Lovett 2KL
Lleyton Bonnier 2KL
We look forward to seeing you for the grand final of the Spelling Bee next Wednesday (Wednesday 8th May 2019).
Today we were human beebots! We had to listen carefully to our partner so that we could receive some instructions and follow the route they had planned for us. We used language relating to position and direction such as left, right, forward, backwards, clockwise and anticlockwise to get our partner to the correct place.
On Tuesday we planted some sunflower seeds. We can't wait to see which one grows the tallest!
Please don't forget that we have our class photos on Thursday (25th April). Children must be wearing their full school uniform and school shoes.
2KL had a great time on their spring walk on Tuesday. We talked about the bugs, flowers and trees that we saw which linked well to our topic this term. The children were coming up with brilliant questions which led us to go back into class and research the answers to the questions. What a brilliant start to the term!
This term our topic is 'Bugs!'
There will be lots of exciting things to learn about this term. In Science we will be learning about plants and habitats. In Geography we will be developing our map skills and looking at aerial photographs. In art we will be looking at natural objects and sketching them. We will also be using the natural objects to make our own pictures. In ICT we will be learning how to programme Beebots to get to a chosen destination. In RE we will be looking at the special ways people live in different religions.
This year, homework will be given out on a Thursday.
Please, please, please make sure you are reading with your children at home!
Don't forget to read at least 5 times a week to be in with a chance of winning the Reading Challenge. It is really important for your children to read as any times as possible in order to secure the learning they do at school, aid their comprehension and confidence when reading.
If you are in 2KL, you will also be entered into Mrs Smith's Reading Raffle each time you read where you could win one of her lovely prizes.
This year we have started a new spelling scheme. We will send home the spellings the children will be learning with their homework. We will be learning these spellings in school on a Monday.
Our PE days are now Monday and Tuesday. Weather permitting, we will be outside.
Please ensure your child has the correct indoor and outdoor kit, earrings are removed and hair is tied back for these days.
