Happy New Year and welcome back!
Today we made potions!
We had lots of fun making potions today! The children had to use what they have learnt so far this week in maths to measure out the potions into measuring cylinders and make their own potions. They worked well together in pairs to make sure they were measuring accurately and recording their potions.
Year 1 loved making pancakes on Tuesday! We learnt about lent, how to make pancakes and pancake day around the world. We then designed our own pancake topping.
World Book Day
1KL looked fabulous on World Book Day! We had lots of fun learning about everyone's favourite book, writing a book review, listening to a book read to us by our special visitor and reading many stories during the day.
Spring Star Writer
Ted is our star writer this term. He has tried really hard with his writing and never gives up. Well done, Ted!
Don't forget to sign up to Marvellous ME (letter given out 10/01/2017) to find out about your child's achievements in 1KL. Speak to Miss Lilley or Mrs Smith for more information.
Crazy Hair Day
The children looked great with their crazy hair on the last day of half term! Thank you for all of the money donated for Great Ormond Street Hospital.
Get Caught Reading
Don't forget to enter our 'Get Caught Reading' competition! Take a picture of your child reading in an unusual place and they will be entered into the draw to win a prize. I look forward to seeing all of the pictures.
1KL loved learning to write in a different way. We talked about reasons why we should be taken to space by the aliens remembering to use capital letters, finger spaces and full stops. We then used the reasons in our writing the next day.
Some friendly aliens came to Mayflower Primary School over the weekend and took someone to be their new leader. The children investigated the crime and found out Mrs Sampson had been taken. 1KL wrote letters to the aliens to help bring Mrs Sampson back.
This term out topic is 'In a Land Far Away..'
In Science this half term we are learning about plants. We have learnt about what a plant needs to grow and today we planted out own sweat pea seeds. We are doing an experiment to see if a plant will grow with no water, no soil, no warmth or no light. 1KL love being scientists!
PE days have now changed.
Indoor PE - Monday
Outdoor PE - Friday
Please make sure you child has the correct PE kit, long hair is tied back and their earrings have been removed for these days.
Would you be willing to listen to children in 1KL read?
We are always looking for volunteers to help the children improve their reading skills.
Please speak to Miss Lilley or Mrs Smith for more details.
1KL will be taking part in another class assembly this term. Date to follow...
Please remember to read at least three times a week to be in with a chance of going to our reading party at the end of term! The children loved the Christmas Reading Party.
Every Wednesday after school you are more than welcome to come into the classroom with your children to have a look in their books to see what they have been learning and to ask any questions you may have. We look forward to seeing you!
Every Wednesday flapjack is sold in the playground at break time for all children at a cost of 20p.
