This week in Geography we have been programming the Bee-bots to find their way around the map. The children had to work out how many spaces they would need to move forward or backwards and whether they would need to turn left or right.
Children in Need
Thank you for all of your donations to Children in Need, the children's enjoyed wearing their funky socks to school.
We have been learning how to count in 2s, 5s and 10s in maths. Please practise this at home to reinforce this learning.
The children looked great on Pirate Day and had lots of fun with their pirate activities including a treasure hunt!
Book Fair Competition
There will be a book fair at school from Wednesday 8th - Tuesday 14th November. As part of the book fair, we have 5, £5 vouchers to give away. If your child would like to enter the competition they should write a book review about their favourite book and hand it in by next Monday. The best one from each year group will win a voucher to spend at the book fair.
It was lovely to see so many of you at our annual firework display this year! Thank you to everyone that came and supported a great event.
This week in English we have been looking at poems. We performed some poems thinking about what makes a good performer, we learnt about onomatopoeia, we thought of our own firework onomatopoeia and then wrote our own firework poems. We read our poems to the class. Ask us about onomatopoeia...
Thank you to everyone that has already signed up to Marvellous Me. It is a great way to see all the brilliant things your child has been doing in class. Don't forget to give me a high 5 back when you have read your notification!
Today was superhero day, the children had such great fun completing their missions in each class and finishing the afternoon with special visitors in KS1. We made Superhero Squash, superhero badges, superhero theme tunes and x-ray vision goggles. Here are some pictures of the busy day we had!
We are busy learning all of our sounds in Year 1 at the moment. Please help your child to practise these sounds at home as much as possible. The children love playing the games on the 'Phonics Play' website. Follow the link below and click on the children's section to find a variety of games.

No Pens Day
We loved No Pens Day! We developed our team work and communication skills during some team games in the hall. We also read the story 'Stick Man' by Julia Donaldson and then went outside to make out own stick men. We then did some yoga. We had such a busy day!
Superhero Sock Puppets
We had great fun designing and making a superhero sock puppet. The children worked really carefully to cut and stick all of the pieces onto their puppet.
During science today we were sense detectives. We had to use our senses to find out which teddy was Ella's as she left it at the train station. Once we had used all of our senses we put the answers together to find out which teddy was hers. We had lots of fun!
Meet the teacher
Thank you to all of those that came to our meet the teacher afternoon. It was nice to see so many of you. If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to ask one of the Year 1 team.
Welcome to Year 1!
The children have been working hard during their first three days back at school. They have been writing about what they did in the summer holidays, practising counting and writing numbers and using the sounds they know to read.
Our topic this term is 'Superheroes'
We would like your child to read every day to support the work the children do in school. Your child's reading diary and book should be put into the book box each morning so that the books can be changed and reading can be monitored.
Flapjacks are sold every Wednesday during break time at a cost of 20p.
Each week, children will be given a set of spelling to learn from our new Year 1 spelling scheme. Please help your child to learn these spellings using the 'Look, Cover, Say, Write, Check' method. Children will be tested on these spellings every Monday and given a new set to learn on Wednesday. Thank you for your help and support.
